Auto Industry & Economy
As I was watching a NFL playoff game this afternoon, I saw a very peculiar commercial for Hyundai.
The commercial starts off like any other car commercial: fancy car, some numbers flash across the screen, a few awards are listed (I know, these car companies are in debt and begging for money, but still able to run ads every other commercial...that's not the peculiar part though). Then the announcer says, "Today, in addition to our warranty, we're introducing Hyundai Assurance, to show the faith we have in you. Right now, finance or lease any new Hyundai, and if in the next year you lose your income, we'll let you return it."
#1 - Why, thank you Hyundai. How generous.
#2 - Who in there right mind would run out and buy a car after seeing this commercial?
#3 - This is supposed to reassure those when money is tight? Ya, go ahead and by a car...just keep it in the back of your mind that if you lose everything...it's OK to give the car back. No harm no foul.
#4 - I like how somehow the auto industry has made the pitch that we are all in this together. If it wasn't for greedy, incompetent CEO's...my tax money wouldn't be bailing out my own car.
#5 - At least someone is looking out for us. Now if only the mortgage companies start this sales pitch.
